Mobile check deposit is convenient, but nearly every bank caps how much you can deposit this way over a given day or month. The limit exists mainly to manage fraud risk, since a mobile deposit can't be physically inspected the way an in-branch deposit can.

What determines your limit

  • How long you've had the account — newer accounts usually have lower limits.
  • Your account balance and deposit history with the bank.
  • The bank's own policies, which can vary widely even for similar account types.

Limits can increase over time

Many banks automatically raise mobile deposit limits after an account has an established history of on-time, verified deposits — sometimes you can also request an increase directly.

Why funds aren't always available immediately

Even after a mobile deposit is accepted, banks are allowed to place a temporary hold on part or all of the funds, especially for larger checks or newer accounts. Federal rules set maximum hold times, but banks can release funds faster at their discretion.
